sampling and separation of serum from blood cells. We agree with M. John and K. Jung that we must be aware of pre-analytical problems when analysing the circulating matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-1 levels. However, we used only serum samples in our study because we usually use serum samples for clinical examinations in our hospital. Therefore, we think that the comparison of the serum TIMP-1 and MMP-9 concentrations in each patient group is valid. Our results are consistent with serum TIMP-1 and MMP-9 concentrations reported elsewhere [2, 3].

Prognostic Impact of Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction Risk Index on Hospitalization Mortality of Patient with Acute Pulmonary Embolism
Introduction: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of the deadly cardiovascular diseases. One of the indexes proposed in these patients for risk stratification is the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) risk index (TRI), which includes three parameters of systolic blood pressure, age, and heart rate. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of TRI on in-hospit...
متن کاملElectrocardiography Patterns and the Role of the Electrocardiography Score for Risk Stratification in Acute Pulmonary Embolism
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Data on the usefulness of a combination of different electrocardiography (ECG) abnormalities in risk stratification of patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) are limited. We thus investigated 12-lead ECG patterns in acute PE to evaluate the role of the ECG score in risk stratification of patients with acute PE. SUBJECTS AND METHODS One hundred twenty-five consec...
متن کاملPrognostic value of the ECG on admission in patients with acute major pulmonary embolism.
A number of ECG abnormalities can be observed in the acute phase of pulmonary embolism (PE). Their prognostic value has not yet been systematically studied in large patient populations. In 508 patients with acute major PE derived from a large prospective registry, the current authors assessed, on admission, the impact of specific pathological ECG findings on early (30-day) mortality. Atrial arr...
متن کاملPulmonary Embolism with Abdominal Pain and ST Elevation: A Case Report
Pulmonary embolism is considered as a great masquerader due to its frequent nonspecific signs and symptoms. Typically pulmonary embolism is under-diagnosed or over-diagnosed. In this study a patient with pulmonary embolism is reported in which the patient exhibited two unusual manifestations namely; right upper quadrant abdominal pain and ST-T elevation in anterior precordial leads. Due to the ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Guidelines and Risk Factors for Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism in Hospitalized Children: A Cross-Sectional Study
Background: Thromboembolism (TE) in pediatric population is rare but may be a fatal situation. There is a lack of clinical guidelines to help decision making for the use of prophylactic measures in pediatrics. This study was designed to evaluate current guidelines and risk factors for the prevention of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (DVT/PE) in children. Materials and Methods: Th...
